Bill of lading (B/L)
A bill of lading (B/L) is a legal document issued by a carrier to a shipper, detailing the type, quantity, and destination of the goods being shipped. It serves as a receipt for the shipment, a contract between the carrier and shipper, and a document of title, allowing the transfer of ownership of the goods. The most common types of B/L include inland bill of lading, ocean bill of lading, negotiable bill of lading, nonnegotiable bill of lading, claused bill of lading, uniform bill of lading, etc.
